What to see in Insula Mystery

Easter Island is a Polynesian island in the southeastern Pacific Ocean, located at the most southeastern point of the Polynesian Triangle. A special territory of the state of Chile, annexed in 1888, Easter Island is famous for its 887 monumental statues, called moai, statues whose origin is still unknown, being built from a marble that is not found on this island. Rapa Nui is considered by UNESCO as a world heritage site, most of the island being declared a National Park. Following the degradation of the modern period, the island has served as a warning regarding environmental and cultural degradation that can result from the irrational exploitation of resources. Currently this theory is contested by ethnographers and archaeologists, who maintain that both the introduction of diseases by Europeans and the deportation of the inhabitants as slaves are the causes that devastated the indigenous population in the 19th century and had a much greater social impact than the decline of the environment. Likewise, the appearance of new species of animals on the island, brought by the colonists, had a devastating impact on the local flora, which almost disappeared between 1930 and 1960.
