What to see in Efes (Kusadasi)

Ephesus is an ancient city on the western coast of Asia Minor, south of Izmir. It was founded in the 11th century BC by Ionian (Greek) colonists, becoming in the course of time one of the most developed religious and commercial centres. It came, in turn, under various foreign occupations. The Temple of the goddess Artemis in Ephesus, built in the 6th century BC, one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world, was set on fire in 356 BC by a citizen of Ephesus named Herostratus, out of a desire to become famous. The city was occupied by the Romans in 133 AD, becoming the capital of the Roman province of Asia. It suffered significant losses in the earthquakes of 358 and 365 AD. In the 7th century AD, Ephesus declined. Text: Wikipedia (ro) — Efes
