What to see in Valletta

Valletta, population 9,129 (1994), is the capital of Malta. Valletta is a 16th-century settlement, with many buildings from the time of the Knights of Malta, the long-standing rulers of the city. It is named after its founder, Grand Master Jean de la Valletta. In Maltese it is known colloquially as il-Belt, meaning "the city".
